FAQ's of Waxing
Q. WHY SHOULD I WAX?
Unlike shaving, waxing removes the hair directly from the roots leaving your skin silky smooth for weeks. You will notice within a few treatments that the hair becomes a softer & finer hair. If possible please do not shave in between services. We are trying to "train" your hair to become less thick/course hair. As the hair thins out, waxing becomes less uncomfortable!
Q. I'M A WAX VIRGIN, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Don't be shy, there's a first time for everything! Just let me know it's your first time & I will walk you through the entire process step by step. If you want to have the most optimal results I will teach the science behind waxing. There is a lot to how your hair grows and develops that you would never have thought of!
Q. HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE?
For best results, your hair length should be about 1/4 inches long. To achieve the most optimal results, it is best to shave the hair down to the skin and let it grow back in from start. Typically you need about 3 week’s growth to get the smoothest results. *When in doubt, it is better the hair be longer than shorter.
Q. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXED?
The recommended time between waxing is 4-6 weeks. If you want too long in between waxing & it is completely grown back in it's like starting all over again!
Q: WILL THE HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?
No! This is a very common misconception! It's been shown that consistent waxing will thin the hair over time. Unlike shaving waxing the hair at the surface of the skin, the hair is removed directly by the root. Your body does not want you to be in any unnecessary pain so it naturally begins to thin out the hairs & loosen the deep set roots for easier removal.
Q. IF I AM GOING ON VACATION/GETTING MARRIED, HOW SOON BEFORE SHOULD I START GETTING WAXED?
Before any vacation (including weddings & honeymoons too) you should have at least 1-2 waxing treatments (about 4-6 weeks apart from each other) done to ensure the hairs don't break off at the surface of the skin and have regrowth in about a week! This is common on a first time wax, especially on legs and in the bikini regions. The actual recommended time to have waxing service before going on vacation or preparing for any big event (ie. wedding day) is 2-3 days. This will allow any redness & tenderness to pass.
Q. BIKINI, FRENCH BIKINI, BRAZILIAN?! - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Bikini removes hair from the sides of where your underwear sit. French Bikini removes hair from the top and sides. Brazilian removes everything - front, back and everything in between! If you wish you can leave a landing strip that can also be transformed into cool shapes & designs.
Q: WHY CAN'T I TAN BEFORE/AFTER MY WAXING APPOINTMENT?
Believe it or not, tanning is damaging your skin! Waxing a damaged skin is likely to lift and cause unwanted scabbing! Tanning directly after waxing increases your chances of burning! If you burn the freshly exposed new skin to it may cause permanently pigment on your skin.
Q. ARE THERE ANY MEDICATIONS THAT I CANNOT BE ON IF I WANT TO WAX?
If you are on Accutane (for acne) or any sort of blood thinner you cannot be waxed until 6-12 months after you've stopped the medication. If you are using a Retin-A topical anti-aging treatment (prescription or serums for faces usually) then you cannot be waxed in the areas that you apply it to!
Q. STRIP WAX OR HARD WAX?!
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? Strip wax is our most popular form of waxing on large waxing surfaces (such as arms & legs). It removes the hair using a warm wax and a cotton strip. Hard wax is used in sensitive areas such as face, bikini & underarms. This wax adheres itself to the hair but not the skin for the gentlest wax possible. The chance of skin irritations such as redness and bumps are reduced because it does not adhere to the skin, instead it “shrink wraps” around the hair. Unlike with soft wax, hard wax is left to harden and becomes plastic-like before removed, no strip necessary – just flip up the edge and pull.
Q. WILL I BE PUT INTO ANY AWKWARD POSITIONS?
Not at all! All of my services require you to be laying on either your front or back.
Q. DO YOU DOUBLE DIP?
Never! I take every step to ensure the highest level of sanitation. Q. WHAT IS A VAJAZZLE? VaJazzling is the process of applying Crystals or sparkles to smooth waxed skin in various shapes such as hearts, butterflies and stars. This usually lasts between 4-7 days.
